You find time stands still in Tynron. It's the perfect place to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet of the countryside. In the evening, sitting by the fire in winter, or on a night-time stroll in summer, all you can hear is the occasional hooting of a barn owl and the river rattling over the stones under the old bridge. When morning comes, you can enjoy breakfast in the sunny back yard, over-looked only by the gargoyles of the old church above.
Tynron is in a great area for walking - it is surrounded by small roads with hardly any traffic, and many footpaths - try walking up Tynron Doon for amazing views of the Lowther Hills and beyond, or over to Moniaive village for a cup of tea or a pint.
Moniaive - described as 'one of the coolest villages in Britain' by The Times - is only a mile and a half away and has everything you will need for a short stay - 2 hotels,an organic cafe, an Italian Bistro, a hairdresser, garage, Post Office and Village Shop. It's a lively place with active local events organisations, and there's always something going on. for more info on Moniaive see www.Moniaive.org.uk . Tynron has its own page on the Moniaive website.
Other nearby attractions include sailing, pony trekking, mountain biking, and the outdoor adventure playground at Drumlanrig Castle (only 5 miles away)
Apart from the great outdoors, there is plenty to see and do in the area. Many artists and musicians live locally and you can find craft studios and shops easily. Come to a music session in the local pub, or the weekly Ceilidh Dancing class in the village hall, or let us arrange traditional music and dance tuition for you with local musicians.
Further afield you will find interesting shops in Thornhill (5 miles) and the famous Robert Burns-associated county town of Dumfries (15 miles) has all the usual amenities of a large town as well as lots of historical interest. In the summer season there are always lots of events planned in the town and surrounding area.
